African Penguins in Charcoal (live workshop Recording)
Learn to draw the striking black and white African Penguin with guidance from Tutor Bethany Y Milam ahead of International African Penguin Awareness Day. In this workshop you will use tonal charcoal drawing techniques to draw African Penguins. You will complete 2 quick warm-ups, followed by a portrait study and main study of two penguins beak-to-beak on the sand. Follow the step-by-step demonstrations, learn to draw basic shape and anatomy, use reductive techniques, see and match tones and add texture.

Suggested Materials:
Willow charcoal
Drawing/cartridge paper or a sketchbook (A4 size suggested)
Putty rubber / Eraser
Blending stumps (optional)
Charcoal pencils (optional)
White chalk (optional)
Fixative
Scrap paper
An Apron; when using charcoal be prepared for mess!
Optionally soft pastel or coloured pencil could be added for the pink above the eyes.
