Swan Family in Soft Pastel (Recorded from a live workshop)

Create a Soft Pastel drawing of a gorgeous Swan family on black paper with guidance from Tutor Bethany Y Milam. In this workshop you will learn how to build up layers of tone and texture. Follow the demonstration step by step, drawing the swan and cygnets using simple shapes and measuring then build 3 dimensional forms using tonal drawing. Learn how to create dramatic tonal contrasts, soft feather effects and reflections, use pastel techniques such as blending, feathering, scumbling and layering.

Soft Pastels

Pastel pencils

Blending stumps or other tools e.g. cotton buds, make up applicators…

Black or dark coloured Pastel paper (I use Pastelmat)

Bristle brush

Putty rubber

Fixative (or hairspray)
